What is Eurodiet

Eurodiet is a weight loss method that combines products and conventional food.

There are 4 different Phases (programmes) the dieter can choose from depending on how much and how fast they want to lose the weight.
 

 

  • Phase 1 and Phase 2 are designed as Very Low Calorie Diets (VLCD).
  • Phase 3 is a low calorie diet and Phase 4 is the maintenance diet.

Why do you need “products”?

 It is not possible to design a Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD) using only ordinary food because you will not get the recommended amount of protein and other nutrients the body needs.

 

The Eurodiet Very Low Calorie Diet or VLCD is a diet that uses specifically formulated products that have very low calorie contents.  However the products still have all the other nutrients (proteins, vitamins and minerals) that the body needs.

Even though Eurodiet is mainly composed of foods prepared from powder form it also has other products in the form of high protein pasta, bars, cereal and muffins.  The huge range of product flavours and inclusion of vegetables gives the possibility of the dieter to eat a meal.  This is not a liquid diet!

Very Low Calorie Diet

 

 These diets are usually based on a 600-800 kcal daily intake and have been used with good results in recognised obesity clinics. The idea is based on a high protein low carbohydrate diet where your body goes into ketosis and these ketone bodies suppress the appetite. The diet allows the use of substantial amounts of vegetables with low carbohydrate content. 

 

A VLCD is only a method of reducing the weight but it is not a method for weight maintenance or weight management. Long term results are only achievable if, after the diet, eating behaviour and activity levels are changed. This is where the different Eurodiet Phases come in.

THE 4 PHASES

Phase 1 and Phase 2

Both these Phases offer rapid weight loss. This is ideal if you feel that you need to lose a substantial amount of weight in a short period.  It may be that your medical condition requires quick weight loss (e.g. imminent operation, getting your blood pressure under control) or you need rapid results to stay motivated and committed.  

 

On average you can expect a weight loss of 10% within the first 40 days (men often reach this within 30 days) using Phase 1 or 2. The difference between Phase 1 and Phase 2 is minimal. Phase 2 has only approximately 200kcal more than Phase 1.  

 

During Phase 1 and 2 you are not allowed to drink any alcohol. Not only does alcohol add extra calories to the diet but it also makes you hungry. 

Phase 1 - Four Eurodiet products per day and vegetables.

 (example: omelette, chocolate mousse, pancake, apple-raisin cereal bar, stir fry and a salad)

Phase 1 is a good starting point for anybody looking for a diet plan that takes the element of choice away. It’s a simple ‘black and white’ approach. It is also a good choice if you have a sweet tooth because on Phase 1 you can select two “Eurodiet sweet products” daily, and there is a great range to choose from. It is recommended that you only use Phase 1 for a maximum of 30 days and then change to Phase 2.  

 

Phase 2 – Three Eurodiet products, one portion of protein and vegetables.

 

(example: omelette, chocolate mousse, apple-raisin cereal bar, steamed vegetables and grilled fish)

If you prefer more savoury food and are prepared to be more disciplined with portion control, then Phase 2 may suite you.  It also makes socialising (eating out) easier.

 

On completion of phase 2, it is recommended that you go onto Phase 3 to establish your new eating habits. 

Phase 3 

If you prefer a more subtle weight loss approach, or if you cannot start with Phase 1 or Phase 2 due to medical contraindications then Phase 3 may suite you. 

This is not a VLCD diet but rather a low calorie diet and typically starts with 1000 kcal/day. Phase 3 is further subdivided into stages A, B and C, the main difference being an increase of conventional foods and a reduction of Eurodiet products through the stages. During this Phase you establish your new eating habits. You will need to make more food choices as the variety of foods that you are allowed to eat increases.

Phase 3a and b can be a starting point for your weight loss diet which allows steady but gentle slimming. Phase 3 can also be the follow-on programme after Phase 1 and 2.

 

Phase 4

Once you have successfully lost the weigh it is important to maintain it and not "fall of the waggon".
